Wellness holidays, the demand for experiences dedicated to well-being is growing. This is confirmed by Istat data.
And while Italian tourism continues to show positive signs, one of the most dynamic segments is precisely that related to "regenerating" travel.
A trend that reflects the changing habits of travelers, increasingly oriented towards experiences capable of improving quality of life and promoting psychophysical well-being.
According to the latest data released by Istat, in the first quarter of 2026, Italian accommodation facilities recorded 23 million arrivals and 71.6 million presences, with a growth of 4.2% and 7.5% respectively compared to the same period of the previous year. The sector is mainly driven by the international component, which represents more than half of the total presences.
In this scenario, wellness tourism is taking on an increasingly central role. If until a few years ago the concept was mainly associated with spas and wellness centers, today it includes a much broader offer that encompasses outdoor activities, health-focused paths, balanced nutrition, meditation, yoga, and stays immersed in nature.
Among the most relevant trends of 2026 is the growing attention to prevention and longevity. More and more facilities are offering programs that combine physical activity, nutritional counseling, regenerative treatments, and personalized paths aimed at the overall well-being of the individual. A demand that interests not only mature travelers but also new generations, in search of authentic and sustainable experiences.
The so-called "nature wellness" continues to grow, a vacation model that favors contact with the natural environment. Trekking, cycling tourism, forest bathing, outdoor yoga, and walking paths are some of the most requested activities by those who wish to disconnect from the rhythms of daily life and find a balance between mind and body.
Italy can count on a particularly favorable heritage for this type of tourism. From historic thermal locations to mountain destinations, passing through lakes, rural areas, and coasts, the country offers a wide variety of experiences capable of combining well-being, culture, landscape, and gastronomy.
Sustainability is also becoming a decisive factor in travelers' choices. Facilities that invest in responsible environmental practices, soft mobility, and enhancement of the territory are increasingly attractive to an audience attentive to the impact of their vacations.
The prospects for the coming months appear positive. The growth in tourist flows recorded by Istat indeed confirms Italy's ability to attract national and international visitors, while wellness tourism continues to evolve from a market niche to a structural component of the tourism offer. A sector that looks to the future focusing not only on relaxation but on a broader concept.
