ArtiTurismo, the new way to discover territories through craftsmanship

Travelers discovering Italian craftsmanship!

More and more tourists choose to experience the territory not only through landscapes, monuments, and places of art, but also by coming into direct contact with the craftsmanship of artisan businesses.

This is the phenomenon of “ArtiTurismo, an experiential and regenerative tourism model that enhances workshops, artisan shops, production sites, local productions, and communities. A form of travel that allows visitors to closely learn about trades, techniques, materials, traditions, and innovations that make Made in Italy unique.

According to data processed by the Confartigianato Studies Office and presented at the 4th Sustainability Forum, in the summer quarter, the percentage of visitors who include visits to artisan workshops and production sites in their travels reaches 21.3%. Considering the entire national tourism movement, the weight of this experience rises to 8.1%.

These numbers tell of an important change in the way tourism is experienced. Travelers increasingly seek authentic experiences, opportunities for encounters, stories to listen to, and products that narrate the identity of the territories. In this scenario, artisan businesses become protagonists: not only productive realities but true bastions of culture, quality, and local attractiveness.

ArtiTurismo represents an important development lever. From cities to villages, from valleys to plains, craftsmanship can help strengthen a tourism offer capable of uniting beauty, hospitality, identity, and economic value for communities.

Visiting an artisan workshop means entering the heart of a trade, seeing how a product is born, understanding the value of manual labor and creativity, discovering the link between business and territory. It is an experience that enriches the tourist and, at the same time, offers new opportunities to businesses, which can make their work more visible and recognizable.

For Confartigianato, regenerative tourism represents a concrete evolution of sustainability: it does not just limit impacts but generates economic, social, and cultural value for host communities. Artisan businesses, with their widespread presence and deep roots in the territories, are protagonists of this journey, as they preserve knowledge, traditions, and skills that contribute to keeping places alive and attractive.

ArtiTurismo can therefore become a new opportunity to promote artisan work, strengthen the bond between businesses and local communities, and offer visitors a deeper and more authentic way to understand the most genuine roots of a community.
