MICHELE BRUNO

Job title: Doctor and expert in food and wine tourism


Born in 1958, a true Apulian, he was born in San Giovanni Rotondo. Medical Director at the “PET and Nuclear Medicine” Center in Brindisi, he combines his professional activity with a deep passion for food and wine and for enhancing the territory. In 1992 he joined the Slow Food movement, holding positions of great responsibility over the years: Trustee, Governor, and finally Regional President until 2013. For Slow Food Puglia, he organizes presentations of food and wine guides, masterclasses, and courses dedicated to wine, oil, cheese, beer, and cooking. He participates as a judge in numerous culinary competitions alongside renowned chefs and journalists, including Gualtiero Marchesi, Heinz Beck, Igles Corelli, Alfonso Iaccarino, Ettore Bocchia, Paolo Marchi, and Davide Paolini. Through his work, he contributes to enhancing the food and wine and tourism heritage of Puglia: he coordinates the “Buon Paese” project, identifies products that will become Slow Food Presidia, and collaborates on the creation of tourist and gastronomic guides for Slow Food, Lonely Planet, and the Espresso Restaurant Guide. He also coordinates significant events in Puglia, Italy, and abroad, such as the Salone del Gusto in Turin, Vinitaly in Verona, Eataly in New York, and Slow Fish in Genoa, in collaboration with the Puglia Region and the Department of Agriculture. In 2014, he founded the association PugliaExpò, of which he is President, supporting public administrations and local realities in planning cultural and food and wine events. Since 2000, he has conceived and coordinated the Mercatino del Gusto in Maglie (Le), an event that has become a regional reference point, now in its 26th edition. Among the awards received: “Stili di Vita” Award (2019) and inclusion in the YEAST – Leavening People project (2021). Since 2020, he has been responsible for the BTMGusto section within BTM Italia and a member of the Scientific Committee of the event. He is also the coordinator of the Taste section of the traveling format BTM InterAzioni, continuing to promote the culture of good food, experiential tourism, and the authentic identity of Puglia.
